Fireplace Mantel Design
The Range of Fireplace Mantel Design
A fireplace can be a decorative addition, or a much needed fixture where heating is called for. Most fireplaces being a space in the wall, it is needless to say that left as such, it has no real decorative finish.
This is where a mantel comes into play. A mantel surrounds the fireplace opening, giving it a finished lining, and enhancing its appearance. Traditionally, mantels have been available in wood and limestone. However a fireplace mantel design is no longer a limited prospect. These are available in wood, stone, and even MDF material. Marble is another composite which is often used to give a classy finish.
Fireplace mantel design comes in many shapes. Though sporting the basic parallel side legs, the top can take many different shapes and designs. Different shapes of legs are also manufactured allowing for mix and match with mantel tops. From classic models of Victorian and Regency times, to more modern art-deco structures, fireplace mantels sport all the look one might want to add to, or to complement, a decoration scheme.
"Custom made mantels offer the broadest range of fireplace mantel plan..."
Fireplace mantel design is available in many finishes, like double primed, sanded, or natural wood finish such as Cherry, Oak, Maple, or Pine. Finished appearances like traditional furniture designs can also be created. Mantels can also receive a paint finish, to match any color scheme, and these mantels are usually made of fiber board material.
Fireplace mantel design comes in some standard models. Traditional designs sport detailed molding and carvings, sometimes very ornate. They are very much reminiscent of Period architecture, and provide a touch of class and elegance. More modern designs sport clean lines, and very little relief detail or molding.
Custom made mantels offer the broadest range of fireplace mantel plan. Designs spinning from the homeowner’s imagination can be custom made, or one can browse catalogs and magazines, and have a replica of a particular design. This also allows more room for blending the mantel into the chosen architectural and decoration scheme of the house.
The only key requirement for a fireplace mantel design is the size of the fireplace, and whether mantels are available for this size, or need to be custom made.
